Dear Steve,
Success!!!!!
At long last
the British Council have given their approval to our grant to visit
JFK in June. There are, however, some slight changes:-
1) Due to the
success of the scheme the British Council have decided to limit
the number of teachers allowed for each visit to a maximum of two.
I have decided, therefore, to allow Kirstin and Lynette to go ahead
of myself.
2) Margaret
Carter, our Deputy Headteacher (Community) is, however, very interested
in
finding out
about Full Service schools in New York as we are thinking
of following similar model
within Thomas Hepburn. We were wondering, therefore, if it would
be possible for Margaret to accompany Kirstin and Lynette in order
to see the work of JFK or other local schools in the Bronx or Washington
Heights.
3) I appreciate
the fact that 2) above could well involve yet more negotiation with
the staff involved and will contact Craig Shapiro directly if you
think that that is the best way forward.
4) The official
visit is to begin on Monday 7th Friday 11th June 2004. The
staff are intending to fly out during the previous week (which is
our half-term holiday) in order to spend a few days sampling the
delights of your fair city before getting down to work.
Steve, I am
very grateful for all your help over the past few months in making
the visit to JFK possible. I am more than a little disappointed
at not being able to visit JFK and meet you in person on this occasion.
However, I hope that this will simply be the start of a long-term
relationship which will lead to two-way teacher visits and ultimately
to the possibility of student exchanges.
Speak
to you soon
Cheers,
Ian Tempest
