The students in Mr. Feld's Art Studio learn that color is the vibration of
light. Each color vibrates at a certain frequency. The spinning disk presents
three distinct bandwidths and demonstrates that color can be seen where it
does not exist. While dogs see in black and white only, it may explain why
they chase cars. The hub caps on the tires or the spokes of bicycle wheels
set up a pulsating pattern as they spin, which dogs may perceive as color.
They chase the cars and bicycles to investigate this phenomenon.
