During their exploration
of Newton's Castle, students will be involved in many learning activities.
They will acquire historical knowledge and understandings of Newton's era
from the timeline.
They will study the ways in which intellectual freedom and concepts of what
is knowledge versus speculation.
An additional dimension
of the project involves the students in comparing the nature of three geniuses:
Newton, Leonardo da Vinci
and Galileo. They
explore through a special link with
TIPS - the ways in which genius
often results in censorship
issues.
They will be able to
see how science as communication functions as they study Newton's key theories,
quotations and insights through documents,
digital media,
and drawings.
Furthermore, they will
also see the ways in which Power
Point, Java scripting,
and graphics can be used to present information for reading viewing and
discussing. (ELA Standards)
Other students viewing
the site will not only get a comprehensive overview of Newton as scientist,
mathematician and great thinker, but also, they will learn how an Internet
project done in collaboration with students attending school on another continent;
can pool resources
to produce an authentic web product. This product not only presents in detail
the work of the scientist Newton, but also introduces other great
thinkers including Leonardo and Galileo, who preceded him. They will also
see a project, which presents the work in context to the arts
advocacy activities the students were exposed to over the time period
of this ThinkQuest project.
