The Software on Our Server

ThinkQuest New York City would like to acknowledge and thank the following software development projects for providing the highest quality open source applications on which our program is built and runs. This software enables us to give New York City teachers and students a rich environment to be as creative and to learn as much as possible. The standards and protocols used in this software allow for easy of use and access for all. As participants you do not need to have, know or even understand these different applications. They are simply the tools that allow us build and manage this program as well as to server your educational web projects to the world.

Debian

Debian GNU/Linux is the operating system which our server runs. It is also the operating system and applications used on the desktop computers of the development staff.

Apache

Apache is the web server software that serves the TQNYC web site as well as the team projects to the Internet.

MySQL

MySQL is the database which manages the information of the program and web sites as well as being available for teams to use in their projects.

PHP

PHP is the scripting (programming) language which the TQNYC web site is written in. It is available for all teams to use in their projects.
